Highwood's two-week acting and musical theatre intensive gives a small group of students, grades 7-12, the opportunity to mimic a professional theatre structure and prepare a full-length play or musical in a condensed, intense rehearsal process. Students will work with a professional Director, Musical Director and Choreographer (for the musical) to create, stage, and rehearse the piece.
Students in this program should expect to be challenged during these two weeks, but will grow tremendously as artists, critical thinkers, actors, and collaborators. This is a program for serious theatre students. Session One is the Musical Theatre Intensive, in which students produce a musical performed July 20 - 22. Session Two is the Acting Intensive, in which students produce a play performed August 3 - 4.
All students who sign up are guaranteed a role in the show. We do hold a meeting for students in advance of the program to have auditions (simply for role placement) and to hand out scripts. That meeting is on Thursday, June 27 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. If you cannot make this meeting, please contract us to schedule an alternate time. However, we do reiterate that this is a program for students looking to be challenged.
Note: Both programs have caps for the number of students and generally fill. We recommend registering early.
